Boston United: League 1 start!

Posted: 13 Mar 2011 12:01 AM PST

I didn't know what I should expect from the first ten-twelve fixtures in League 1. The start in the league was a real surprize for me…

Boston matches

Interesting that I am somewhat said being at the 8th position. Why? Just because Boston United managed to win the first 5 matches and climb to the top of the table.

Unfortunately it seems it was just a lucky episode because next 4 games were lost with difference in goalПечальная рожица

First Boston United matches in League 1

Don't know what to expect again. League 1 teams are very different by their strength: some tend to perform at Champinship level, others should merely go down to League 2…

Optimistic season start

Boston United had tough League Cup skirmish with Wigan (they are in the Championship now in my game). The score was 2:2 on the 120th minute. Referee compensated 1 minute which became fatal for our team… I hoped so much to see series of penalties..Печальная рожица

Winning series

I wouldn't believe if some of you, dear readers, make a forecast that my Boston United will win all matches in the first 5 fixtures. But it's happened. Now I can boast with beautiful revenge to Barnet that overtook my club in the last League 2 fixture taking away the 3rd position:

Barnet – Boston United 0:5

Another delightful moment is goal of Peter Leven and home victory over Plymouth which is predicted by media to take the 4th table line this season:

One of the most entertaining League 1 matches was against Wycombe:

Row of losses

After successful and therefore somewhat stunning start Boston United fell into series of unlucky matches. For example, how do you like 3 games lost in row with the same poor 0:1 score?

Three 0:1 losses

The last of them was especially said. 2 woodworks, 2 clear cut changes, 13 shots… and no goals. It's a bad sign of weak attackers.

Johnstone's Paint Trophy

Progress in this tournament made me thinking about winning it. Boston United has all chances! The next opponent is Carlisle from League 2:

Players

Several Boston United footballers can boast of their presence in the TOP-20 League 1 sorted by average rating:

No more holes in the centre of defence line!

High ratings of 2 new central defenders - Byron Webster and Jean-Christophe Maras – prompt about successful solution of defence problem discussed in one of the earlier posts. Webster became the best Boston player of the reported time period incidentally.

The most blog readers advised me to use Ben Chorley together with Maras. I listened to the advices but Chorley made few stupid mistakes in the first matches + 1 own goal. This is the reason why he was moved to a substitution bench and replaced by Webster.

Feedback about newcomers

As a tradition, I would also like to share the full player list:

Although players from "Poor category" have to have more played matches. Only then they will be evaluated more accurately.
