Championship season: targets and transfers Posted: 03 Apr 2011 12:33 AM PDT OK, Boston United is ready for the Championship season. I can't say I am going to promote this year because my squad is too weak even after made transfers. But let me explain you the reasons of this conclusion one after another. First of all, I am glad to inform that Boston board answered positively on my request at first in the career! It's a good sign. Maybe soon they won't reject to upgrade the stadium
Season targetsI promised to finish in the middle of the Championship table in our debut year. I think it's completely real and possible to do. But sure, it would be great to catch a playoff place. Currently I can't say if it's possible because it's too complicated to estimate our chances. Though Sky Bet gives Boston United 100-1 which is extremely low likelihood. It is important to understand that the main season target for Boston is squad reconstruction that should guarantee promotion to Premier League in the next season and successful avoidance of relegation there.
Boston transfersPlayers outI let many players leave the team because of their insufficient level for the Championship. It's obvious, you understand. Special words should be said about Fans' Player of the Year in the League 2 season – David Mooney. He has been performing very poorly in the League 1 season and managed to fail too many clear cut chances. So my angriness overcame my mind, and the guy is sold
Players inI had $3.6M for transfers but managed to spend only $775K. You can ask me: "How? Why?". It's because of low Boston United's reputation. Therefore I wasn't able to find many players suitable for the Championship. After all these signings I have $2.8 still available for spending: So my tactics is to spend them during the winter transfer window when the reputation of Boston United should become higher. Now let's take a look at Boston newcomers!
Stefan Maierhofer (FC)Rock-forward. I mean he is so tough and tall like a rock. Sure, he didn't suit much to my 4-3-2-1 tactics but I have certain hopes on Maierhofer because other forwards are merely worse. Moreover, I am going to change positioning of players during attacking corners – Maierhofer will attack the far post where ball is crossed normally following my instructions.
Moreno (DC/DMC/MC)Moreno wil start the first eleven in a role of central defender. The only his perceptible shortcoming is low speed. I hope Moreno's experience will help in the season.
Emil Hallfredsson (AML)Another experienced player for the first eleven. Good one, for the Championship level.
Antony Di Lallo (AML/AMR)Di Lallo is worth $160K paid for his person. Of course, he is just decent winger. But the good point is that he can perform on the both wings.
Jeffrey Altheer (DRC)My new right defender. Theoretically he can be used at DC position, but practically it's impossible due to his poor Strength and Jumping influencing on won headers ratio.
Florent Cuvelier (MC, loaned from Stoke)Cuvelier is the first eleven contender. At least he is better than two my main MCs of the previous season – Leven and Summerfield.
Alex Nicholls (FC/AMR)Alex Nicholls lacks speed. Other attributes inspire me more, especially combination of Finishing, Composure and Off The Ball. This forward can stay in Boston United for long time because he can be good substitution player even in the Premier League (sure it's only for clubs placed below mid-table).
Alex Winter (DC/MC, loaned from Fulham)Winter is loaned from the parent club as you see. He will help in the centre of defence, maybe even in the first eleven.
Pascal Yarbo (MC, loaned from Fulham)I didn't find a new good playmaker for Boston United. Therefore Pascal Yarbo was loaned from Fulham. Hopefully I will find someone worthwhile during winter transfer window instead.
Jake Hardy (MC)Just a young prospect.
Fred Salem (DR)Deep backup player.
So dear readers, you see my transfers doesn't look very impressive this time. I am pretty sure you wouldn't bet on Boston promotion this year. Though remember that I hope to continue the squad rebuilding in winter anyway. In spite of all transfer obstacles Boston United started very well in the Championship making a surprise against Crystal Palace. It was a lucky game because many opponent's players were injured.
